Commercial Type

This register answers the question "how did we agree on the money": a fixed price for the whole scope, or payment for the time spent. The type is set on a quotation — the "Quot. type" field on the "Conditions" tab.

A worked example

Commercial type

Type FIXED "Fixed price". The card is simple: code, name and comment.

The demo company keeps two — fixed price and time and materials. They are two different ways of counting money for the very same work:

Commercial type

  • fixed — the sum is agreed up front and any overrun is the supplier's problem;
  • time and materials — the invoice is built from actual hours, and the risk sits with the customer.

Where it matters

The type is a reference attribute: it calculates nothing by itself. It shows on the quotation card and in the quotation list, so it is handy for filtering and grouping quotations — so that deals with different economics do not get blended into one total.

Typical situations

A mixed arrangement: part fixed, part by the hour. Pick the dominant type and reflect the detail as separate lines in the budget.

Your own variants are needed. The register is open: create as many types as you genuinely use.

The type cannot be deleted: "A record of «Commercial Type» is used in: Quotations!" A quotation holds the type. Saving a quotation does not check the type, so without this refusal quotations would keep the code of a type that no longer exists, and a filter by type would not find them. Leave a type that quotations use as it is; for a new arrangement create another one.
