Cash Out Journal
A list of cash payments for a period — with amounts, items and totals. The mirror of the cash in journal and the usual way to answer "how much did we spend this month, and on what".
Where to find it: Modules → Cash Book → Reports → Cash Out Journal
Like the receipts journal, it is built from documents, not from money: supplier invoice payments are separate documents and never appear here.
Parameters
The same as in the receipts journal: period, document number, employee, object, item, and the OK and Detail checkboxes.
A worked example

August 2026 holds two payments:
- No. 1 of 07/08/2026, payment method CASH, GBP 1,450.00: a single row, item SALARY, object TAYLOR;
- No. 2 of 10/08/2026, payment method BANK, GBP 464.00: two rows — PAYE 290.00 and National insurance 174.00.
The total for both is GBP 1,914.00. Note that these are payments both in cash and from the bank account. The journal collects documents by type, not by till; to follow one particular till, filter by payment method in the cash book.
The rows are visible thanks to the "Detail" checkbox. Without it the report shows headers only — one amount per document, with no breakdown by item.
How to use it
The payroll block. Filtering by the SALARY item over a quarter gives every wage payment, and filtering by the tax items gives every transfer to the authorities. Handy for reconciling against payroll calculations.
A check before closing the month. Clear the "OK" box: unapproved payments mean the money has left but the ledger does not know it.
Who paid. The employee filter shows the documents of one particular cashier.
A breakdown by analytics. The object filter collects every payment for one employee or business line — provided the object is on the document header or on a row. A row with several comma-separated objects is found by any of them; a document found by a row shows only the amount of such rows. Together with the employee filter both apply: only that employee's documents with that object.
Where to look next
- Cash Out — the document itself;
- Cash In Journal — the mirror report;
- Cash Out report — the same payments broken down by item;
- Cash book — the movement of money on the cash account, with the balance.
